The typical duties of a jail guard varies according to the type of prison and level of security. However, the major work of a prison guard include, amongst others;

*Promoting anti-bullying and suicide prevention policies
*Performing security checks and check procedures
*Supervising prisoners, taking an account of those in your charge and maintaining proper order
*Supervising visits and carrying out patrol duties
*Employing authorized physical control and restraint procedures where appropriate..

 The list goes on and on.. But slamming an inmate to death is definitely not a responsibility of a prisoner or jailer..
